DAY 4 – KETCHIKAN

The ship docked alongside the pier in Ketchikan very early this morning and we were cleared to disembark by 7am!  We did not disembark then!

Ketchikan is the 6th largest city in Alaksa and has a whopping population of about 13,000.  It’s on an island so everything has to be brought in by container ships!  Kevin heard that the dollar menu in Ketchikan is $1.50!  It’s a cute down that is very compact and very walkable.

The Commodore and I headed out with Amy, Brian and the kids and we decided to hire a couple of cabs for an hour to see the sights.  We rode about 6-7 miles out of town to the place called Herring Cove where there was a possibility of seeing some wildlife.  We did manage to see lots of eagles but the bears were shy today and stayed away.  That was just fine and dandy, as far as I was concerned!  The took us a few miles more to see some magnificent waterfalls and then we headed back into town to see the fish ladder and we could watch the salmon leaping against the rushing current!  That was something to see!  Amazing.

We then decided to partake of some fresh Alaska seafood to we were directed to a restaurant called Annabelle’s.  Since it was still early we were able to be seated right away but the restaurant soon became swamped and the place really filled up.  Our lunch was very good and as we were leaving we ran into Eddie, Theresa, Kevin and Lisa and Del!  They were all waiting to get into Annabelle’s!  Small town, indeed!

Everyone had a great day exploring the town and then it was time to head back to the ship since we had a 2:30 pm departure.  The day was gray, foggy and we did have some light rain at times.  We are hoping for some better weather for Juneau tomorrow.

Our afternoon trivia was another second place finish.  Boo Hiss!!
Tomorrow we have a tour out to the Mendenhall Glacier which everyone should enjoy.

This evening was a good chance to see whales as we passed through a narrow portion of the inland passage…..we did see dolphins……but no whales…maybe tomorrow.

Tonight the gang is off to a game show called “Yes and No Show”.  They get people to answer questions without saying ‘yes’ or ‘no’ and they trip people up pretty quickly!

Last night some of the group went to a game show that was called ‘Quest’ and each team had to gather certain items and be first to bring everything back.  Kendall, Sydney and Riley’s team WON!!!  Thanks to Aunt Amy whipping out her bra from her shirt in record time!!  She’s now called the ‘bra lady’!!  They also had to grab a waiter from a restaurant and bring him to the show!  Kendall was called a ‘wildebeest’ because of her sprinting ability.  Too funny!  She had to elbow some of the competition as well!  Way to go Kendall!!
All for now……XOXOXOXOXOX
